NEW DELHI: Ashish Nehra played the last international match of his cricket career on Wednesday at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground in Delhi. On this ground, Nehra started his cricket career through first-class cricket. Nehra, who started his international career in 1999, has been successful in playing cricket for 18 years. Playing cricket till the age of 38 is not easy. Although players older than Nehra are playing cricket but returning to the team repeatedly after surgery 12 times shows Nehra's devotion to cricket. In these 18 years, only 17 Tests, 120 ODIs and 27 T20 games are played. Due to injuries, Nehra had to stay away from cricket most of the time. In the last match, a new record has also been established in the name of Nehra. After James Anderson, Nehra has become the other player who has been seen bowling with his name "Playing End". On Wednesday, the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) created a Playing End for Nehra for one day.
Started playing cricket in the captaincy of Mohammad Azharuddin
In the year 1999, Ashish Nehra was selected in the Indian team. On 24 February 1999, Nehra played his first match on the field of Colombo against Sri Lanka in the captaincy of Mohammad Azharuddin. In this match, Nehra managed to take just one wicket while bowling over 28 overs. Sri Lankan Marvan Atapattu became the first victim of international cricket. After this match, Nehra had to stay away from cricket for two years. Then in 2001, under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly, Nehra was selected in the team. In this series against Zimbabwe, Nehra took 11 wickets while playing two matches. Nehra's Test career did not last long He played his last Test match against Pakistan in the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly on April 13, 2004. After this Nehra did not have a selection in the Test team. Nehra did not succeed in taking five wickets in an innings of Test match.

Only one wicket taken in Tests on home ground
In the Test match, Ashish Nehra did not get much chance to play in India. Between 1999 and 2004, Nehra played 17 Test matches and out of 16 played on overseas field while playing only one match on home ground. If talk of the domestic field, then on 23 October 2002, Nehra played his first match on the Eden Gardens ground in Kolkata. This was the first and last Test match of Nehra's Test career on the home turf. In this match against the West Indies, Nehra took only one wicket while bowling 23 overs, that is, on the domestic ground, Nehra managed to take only one wicket in Test cricket. In Test cricket, Nehra was successful in taking 44 wickets in which 43 wickets on overseas ground.
Lead led by several captains in ODI
In the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly, Nehra started his ODI career. On 24 June 2001, Nehra played his first ODI match against Zimbabwe. In this match, Nehra took two wickets for 33 runs in 10 overs. Nehra succeeded in playing one of the most ODI matches under Sourav Ganguly's captaincy. Nehra also played some ODIs in the captaincy of Rahul Dravid. Due to repeated injuries and surgery between 2005 and 2009, Nehra had to stay away from cricket for nearly four years. In the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni on June 26, 2009, Nehra's return to ODIs after four years. Nehra also played two matches in the captaincy of Virender Sehwag on 21 and 24 December 2009. Ashish Nehra played five ODIs in the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir between November 28 and December 10, 2010. Between 2001 to 2011, Nehra played 120 ODIs and managed 157 wickets.

Ashish Nehra is in first place in a World Cup match for best performance in India's bowling. On 26 February 2003, Nehra took a magnificent bowling against England and took 6 for 23 in 10 overs. This is one of the best performances of Nehra's ODI career. Stuart Binny is in first place in the ODIs for the most outstanding performances from India, while Anil Kumble is in second place. On January 17, 2014, Binny had taken 6 wickets with just four runs while bowling only 4.4 overs against Bangladesh, while Anil Kumble took 6 wickets for 12 runs in 12 overs against the West Indies in the series on November 27, 1993.
