India-China border dispute settlement exercise

After the 73-day deadlock at Dokalam, India and China will take a decision on resolving the issue of border dispute from Friday. In the 20th round of India-China border talks, there will be talks between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi.

Before the meeting, China raised the Doklam case and tried to put pressure on India on this issue, while India is preparing to raise the issue of Chinese infiltration in other areas. Both the countries will also interfere with each other on other global issues.

Sources said though the talks are related to the boundary dispute, it can not be denied the involvement of other issues. As far as Dokalam is concerned, India will remain firm on its old stand. India already considers Dokalam as Bhutan’s territory and considers Bhutan’s approval mandatory for any kind of construction in it. Apart from this, in order to avoid the dispute over the border in the meeting, it would be wise to set up a new system based on suggestions from another country.

China has already made it clear that talks will not be confined to a limited border dispute. During this time, strategic and global issues will also be discussed. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chueng said that this dialogue is not only for discussing the border issue at a higher level but also a platform for strategic interaction. Hua said that the relationship between India and China was moving in a very rigid manner in 2017, but the Doklam controversy kept a tough challenge before the two countries.
