Not only this, commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the newspaper has described the prime minister as anti-Muslim.
In the editorial written in Dhivehi, the local language of Maldives, China has been termed as the new and best friend of the Maldives. Maldivian opposition party Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) believes that after this step of President Yameen, India should be alerted. MDP leader and former Maldives Foreign Minister Ahmed Naseem told the Times of India newspaper that such editorials are being written for the purpose of appeasing China, which is not in the interest of both the countries. He said that both countries have good interests only in good relations with India. It is also stated in the newspaper’s editorial that India and Sri Lanka are plotting to overthrow the Yemen government in the Maldives. The newspaper has also accused India of violating international law in Kashmir and Sri Lanka.

The government of Maldives is preparing this kind of acts against China against India. Opposition leader and former President Mohammed Nasheed and Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, after publishing the editorial, has stood firm in favor of the Government while strongly opposing the government. He said that he strongly condemns this article, which displays India as the biggest enemy of the Maldives. He said that India has always been the best friend of the Maldives.

India has only reminded the Prime Minister of his policy on this remark of the newspaper. Foreign Ministry spokesman Ravish Kumar said that India expects that the Maldives should be only sensitive to their concerns. After this, the Maldives signed the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with China and that too without the consent of the opposition. Not only this, the Malé government suspended three councilors for meeting Indian ambassador Akhilesh Sharma.
