Matt Mosley, columnist for Texas Monthly, and Jon Machota, Cowboys beat writer for The Dallas Morning News, recently interviewed multiple NFL hopefuls ahead of Thursday’s draft. Here are some highlights:
Mosley: Did Troy Aikman show up at your pro day? What was that like? Did you get a chance to visit with him, get to know him a little bit?
Darnold: Yeah. I got the chance to visit with him. I just shook his hand. We didn’t really have a full conversation because media was pulling me away, but, I got to meet him and it was a great time. He’s a big dude.

Mosley: One of the only negatives anyone has ever said about him was that he had trouble throwing a wet football. Do you think that getting thrown in the rain [at your pro day] helped a little bit?
Darnold: I think it helped. I think it just kind of shut some people up about me throwing in the rain and throwing in conditions. It was cool because people towards the top of the draft are on the East Coast, so it was cool to throw in the rain, but it didn’t really have that big of an impact on me to be honest.

Mosley: Do you think it was hard for Aikman to rank you ahead of Josh Rosen?
Darnold: That’s an honor. It’s really flattering. It’s cool, but I’m just going to go out there and continue to be myself and work the way that I do.
