Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team gets No. 5 seed in NCAA Tournament

The Stony Brook ladies’ lacrosse group, positioned No. 1 in the nation for 10 straight weeks, was given the No. 5 seed for the NCAA Tournament, as reported amid a choice show on Sunday night.

That didn’t influence Stony Brook to mentor Joe Spallina cheerful. “We’re the main undefeated group in the nation,” he said after his group beat Albany, 22-14, in the America East title amusement on Sunday.

“We have the No. 1 non-meeting RPI in the nation. Nothing [the determination committee] will disclose to me that will legitimize us not being No. 1. Nothing.”

Maryland was given the No. 1 seed and North Carolina (No. 2), James Madison (3) and Boston College (4) likewise got higher seeds than the Seawolves. Florida is the No. 6 seed.

As a best six seed, Stony Brook (19-0) will have a bye in the first round. The Seawolves will play the Penn State-Penn champ on Friday at LaValle Stadium. The national elimination rounds and last will be played at LaValle on May 25 and 27.

Stony Brook set up together the country’s best non-gathering RPI this season by going 8-0 against positioned adversaries. The Seawolves outscored those adversaries by a consolidated 128-64.

Stony Brook’s participation in the America East, a customarily weaker meeting in respect to supposed “power gatherings, for example, the ACC and Big Ten, likely hurt its seeding.

Second-seeded Adelphi (18-2) will play third-seeded LIU Post (14-5) at 3 p.m. Friday in the first round in the Division II competition. Le Moyne, the best seed in the East Region, will play the victor and host the two amusements.
